Remotion is a source-available programmatic video framework designed for developers, engineering teams, creative technologists, automation builders, and companies that need to generate videos from code. Instead of editing videos primarily through a traditional timeline interface, Remotion lets users build compositions with React and TypeScript while using web technologies for layouts, animations, graphics, audio, video, captions, and data-driven content. Applications can consume user input and external APIs before rendering finished media such as MP4 videos, still images, audio, GIFs, and PDFs.

Remotion has also been designed for AI-assisted video development. Its documentation supports coding agents including Claude Code, Codex, Kimi Code, and OpenCode, allowing users to describe videos through prompts and have an external AI coding agent generate or modify Remotion code. Remotion provides Agent Skills, AI-oriented documentation, an AI SaaS template, and a Prompt-to-Video template that can combine scripts, images, and voiceovers. However, Remotion itself is primarily a development framework rather than a hosted generative AI model, so AI-agent subscriptions and external AI services may be required.

For production rendering, developers can render locally, in the browser, through AWS Lambda, or through Google Cloud Run. Remotion Lambda distributes rendering across serverless functions and supports high-concurrency video production. The Remotion Player can also be embedded in web applications for interactive video previews and personalized video experiences.

Remotion is free for individuals, organizations of up to 3 people, nonprofits, and qualifying evaluation use. Organizations with 4 or more people require a Company License. Remotion for Creators costs $25 per seat per month, while Remotion for Automators costs $0.01 per render with a $100 monthly minimum. Enterprise starts at $500 per month. Remotion is source-available but is not OSI-defined open-source software.
