Muse is Meta’s personal AI agent that can browse the web, work across connected apps, complete multi-step tasks, make purchases, create documents and images, monitor ongoing goals, and continue working in the background with user-controlled permissions
Muse is a personal AI agent from Meta designed to go beyond answering questions by taking actions on a user’s behalf. Users can give Muse a task or goal through a conversational interface, and the agent can build a plan, navigate websites, gather information, interact with connected services, and complete multiple steps while keeping the user in control of important decisions.
A central part of Muse is Muse Secure VM, a persistent dedicated virtual machine with its own browser. This gives the agent a secure environment for navigating websites and completing tasks such as booking appointments, filling in forms, handling customer-service processes, and making online purchases. Muse can continue working after the user closes the app, making it suitable for longer-running tasks and monitoring workflows.
Muse works through natural conversation and can be accessed through its dedicated app or directly in WhatsApp. It can connect to services such as email, calendars and Instagram, and Meta says it can even create its own tools when a task requires functionality that is not already available. It can also answer questions, research topics, generate images, create documents, set reminders, monitor information and track goals.
The platform includes approval controls for sensitive actions. Before activities such as sending messages, making purchases or sharing information with a connected service, Muse can request permission. Users can review an audit trail showing completed and planned actions and manage permissions for individual connections.
Meta also emphasizes security around credentials and payments. Login information is stored in a secure credential system that the agent itself cannot read. For supported purchases, Muse can use one-time card numbers so the agent and merchant do not receive the user’s actual payment-card number. Meta states that Muse conversations are not shared with its advertising systems.
Muse is available through dedicated iPhone and Android apps, through WhatsApp, and on macOS. The Mac version can work with local files and authorized information from apps such as Messages, Calendar and Notes.
Muse currently offers free access with a usage limit. When that limit is reached, users can wait for it to refresh or upgrade to a paid subscription. Meta’s public Muse page currently does not provide a standard fixed subscription price.
