It can work across repositories, understand existing codebases, write and modify code, execute commands, browse the web, run tests, debug problems, and create pull requests. Devin provides an embedded IDE, terminal, and interactive browser so developers can monitor its work and take control when needed.
The platform includes Ask Devin, which lets users explore a repository, ask questions about architecture and dependencies, and plan implementation before making code changes. Once a task is scoped, users can hand it to Agent mode for autonomous execution. Devin can work on bug fixes, feature development, refactoring, migrations, test creation, CI issues, dependency updates, and other engineering tasks.
Devin automatically indexes connected repositories and generates DeepWiki documentation containing architecture diagrams, summaries, and links to source material. It also supports integrations with tools such as GitHub, Slack, Jira, Linear, and MCP-compatible systems. The Devin MCP server enables external AI applications and IDEs to interact programmatically with Devin sessions, knowledge, playbooks, and scheduling.
