Descript

Descript is a collaborative audio and video production platform designed for podcasters, video creators, marketers, educators, businesses, and social media teams. Its defining feature is text-based editing: when users record or import audio and video, Descript automatically creates a transcript. Deleting, moving, or rewriting sections of that transcript changes the corresponding media, making editing feel closer to working in a document than using a traditional timeline. A conventional timeline remains available for precise adjustments to visuals, audio, timing, layers, and transitions.

Descript’s AI co-editor, Underlord, can perform editing tasks from natural-language instructions. Users can ask it to improve a script, remove filler words, create captions, enhance audio, generate scenes, find highlights, produce short clips, or help transform an idea into a complete video. It can also generate scripts, custom B-roll, images, animations, and social videos. Because Underlord is agentic, it can apply changes directly rather than only recommending what the user should do.

The platform includes screen, webcam, microphone, and remote recording workflows for podcasts, tutorials, interviews, presentations, webinars, and product demonstrations. AI tools include Studio Sound for reducing noise and echo, Eye Contact for correcting a speaker’s gaze, background removal, active-speaker reframing, automatic captions, silence removal, filler-word deletion, voice generation, custom voice cloning, and long-video repurposing.

Projects can be shared for collaborative editing, review, comments, or publication through hosted web pages and embeddable players. Descript also provides stock media, templates, brand controls, team workspaces, API access, and MCP connectivity for controlling projects through compatible AI assistants. Current plans use Media Minutes for imported or recorded content and AI Credits for tools such as Underlord, Studio Sound, Eye Contact, generated media, and AI Speech. A permanent Free plan includes limited monthly media processing and AI usage with watermark-free 720p exports.
