Brave Leo AI

Brave Leo AI is the browser-native AI assistant developed by Brave, designed for users who want generative AI capabilities integrated directly into their browsing workflow with a strong emphasis on privacy. Leo is available inside Brave on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS, allowing users to ask questions without leaving the webpage they are viewing.

Leo can summarize webpages, PDFs, Google Docs and Google Sheets, analyze text and images, translate content, generate articles, emails and other written material, and provide coding assistance. It can also use Brave Search to enrich responses with current web information. Multi-tab context allows Leo to work with information from several open tabs, while locally stored chat history lets users revisit conversations. Brave also offers Skills, which let users save reusable prompts and trigger them with shortcuts for recurring tasks.

Through Bring Your Own Model (BYOM), desktop users can connect local models through tools such as Ollama or use remote model endpoints and third-party APIs. Brave currently provides multiple models across its Free and Premium tiers, including models from Claude, Llama, Qwen, GPT-OSS, DeepSeek, Mistral, Gemma and others, although exact availability can change.

Privacy is a core differentiator. Brave states that Leo does not retain chats on its servers or use conversations for model training, and the free version requires no account. Chat history can instead be stored locally. Brave has also introduced additional privacy technologies for selected Leo inference, including end-to-end encryption and confidential computing.

Brave Leo is available free with usage limits. Leo AI Premium costs $14.99/month or $149.99/year and includes higher rate limits, access to more models, early access to features, and a 7-day free trial. Experimental AI Browsing can perform multi-step web tasks, but it is currently limited to Brave Nightly and should be considered an experimental capability.
