Amazon Q is a collection of generative AI assistants from Amazon Web Services designed to help developers, business teams, analysts, and IT professionals work more efficiently with software, company information, and AWS services. Rather than functioning as one general-purpose chatbot, Amazon Q provides specialized experiences for different business and technical use cases.

Amazon Q Developer supports the software development lifecycle by helping users understand codebases, generate and edit code, receive inline completions, debug problems, run security scans, modernize applications, optimize AWS resources, and answer questions about AWS architecture and best practices. It is available through supported IDEs, the command line, the AWS Management Console, GitLab Duo, and a web-based transformation environment.

Amazon Q Business is built for organizations that want employees to search, summarize, and interact with internal company information through natural-language conversations. It can connect to enterprise documents, applications, databases, communication platforms, and other knowledge sources while respecting existing identities, roles, and access permissions. Responses can therefore be personalized according to what each employee is authorized to view. AWS is positioning Amazon Quick Suite as the next evolution of Amazon Q Business, while existing Q Business customers can continue using the current service or reuse their Q indexes with Quick Suite.

Amazon Q also powers specialized capabilities within services such as Amazon QuickSight and Amazon Connect. These integrations help teams create dashboards using natural language, analyze business data, assist contact-center agents, and deliver automated customer support. For AWS cost management, Q can investigate spending changes, identify optimization opportunities, estimate workload costs, monitor anomalies, and generate visualizations through conversational requests.
